About Rowan Lugg
I’m an artist based in Stoke-on-Trent, currently studying Fine Art BA at Manchester Metropolitan University. My practice began through an interest in the human body and lived experience and has since developed into a multidisciplinary approach encompassing sculpture, printmaking, and animation.
At university, my work has become increasingly research-led, exploring British folklore and inherited storytelling as a way of examining contemporary social issues. I’m particularly interested in how traditional narratives shape ideas around identity, gender, and belonging, and how they can be reinterpreted to centre women and queer perspectives.
Through experimenting across physical and digital processes, I create work that reimagines familiar stories within contemporary contexts, connecting historical narratives to present-day experiences.
